Minnesota Fixed Gear Classic 2010 290x300 Minnesota Fixed Gear Classic 2010On June 11-13, a three day track racing event will be held at the National Sports Center Velodrome in Blaine, Minnesota to benefit the Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota. This is the Minnesota Fixed Gear Classic and registration for it is now open. The race is part of the Nature Valley Grand Prix stage races. Other stages are at Saint Paul, Cannon Falls, Minneapolis, Menomonie and Stillwater. The Nature Valley Grand Prix is part of the volunteer-run event Nature Valley Bicycle Festival.

The Minnesota Fixed Gear Classic follows a dual omnium program. This will allow separate races for sprinters and another for endurance specialists. It has two categories for men (Pro-I-II) and women (Pro-I-II-III).

Long Beach Bike Festival 2010 1 231x300 Long Beach Bike Festival 2010Long Beach, California will hold its annual Long Beach Bicycle Festival on May 7, 8 and 9, 2010. The city has a vision to enhance its Bicycle Master Plan with the help of more than 25 organizations, volunteers and vendors who would like to see Long Beach City become the friendliest urban biking city in the United States.

The Long Beach Bicycle Festival will feature several mini-events in the three-day celebration. The roster of events include bicycle polo matches, cyclestyle fashion show, bicycle film festival, bike photo contest, fixed gear fest and more. There will be a charity race called the Tour of Long Beach

The Fixed Gear Fest will start off the festival with a slew of freestyle riding , skid, track stand and trick contests, live music, DJs, roller racing and vendor booths displaying their wares. At 6pm, the City Council officials will have a competition on tricycles.

new record at panam track championships 300x211 New Record at PanAm Track ChampionshipsThe US Team for the PanAmerican Track Championships set a new world record for team pursuit on the second day of the race. The team is composed by Sarah Hammer, fresh from setting a new world record in the women’s 3000m individual pursuit, Lauren Tamayo and Dotsie Bausch.

The new world record was 3:19.569 as the trio rode three kilometers at the Bicentennial Velodrome in Aguascalientes, Mexico. Their time was lower thans the record set by the New Zealand team at the UCI Track World Championships in Copenhagen last March. The New Zealand team was composed of Alison Shanks, Lauren Ellis and Rushlee Buchanan. Their time was 3:21.552.

a 4 million velodrome in south carolina 1 300x169 A $4 million Velodrome in South CarolinaRock Hill, South Carolina will soon be the site for a multi-million dollar velodrome, BMX Supercross track and a cyclocross course. The facilities will be open to the public with major construction of the new building will begin next year at the site which will be renamed Riverwalk. Come later this spring, a walking trail will emerge along the riverbank where once Catawba Indians walked.

Mayor Doug Echols of Rock Hill expresses his excitement over the project. The site was where a Celanese industrial plant once stood. The 1,000-acre land will also include construction of houses, shops and restaurants.

“This is a tremendously exciting project. It is really transformational. Along with the other venues, I think it affords us an opportunity to truly be a cycling center for the East Coast,” said Mayor Echols.
